Most insurance carriers offer discounts on boat insurance for proof of satisfactory completion of a NASBLA-approved safe boating course.

In South Carolina, anyone younger than 16 operating a vessel powered by a 15-horsepower or greater motor on public waterways must first complete a NASBLA-approved course or otherwise be in compliance with the boating safety education law.

In North Carolina, that requirement applies to those younger than 26.

For boater safety class providers, see the resources listed under “Schools” in the Marine Service Index.
